A Word from the CEO

Committed to Position Malaysia as a Globally Competitive Digital Nation

I would first like to take the opportunity to wish everyone Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. I hope that the festive season brings light, love, peace and hope to your life and those around you. And good rendang.

Digital investments are one of the core pillars of Malaysia’s digital economy. They contribute to our economic growth, create high-value jobs and boost digital expansion. Since 1996, MDEC via the MSC Malaysia initiative has attracted 2,794 active MSC-status companies, bringing in RM384 billion worth of investments and creating almost 185,000 jobs.

As the successor to MSC Malaysia, the upcoming Malaysia Digital initiative seeks to drive Malaysia’s value proposition for digital investments, in line with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL)’s goal of attracting RM70 billion investments in digitalisation by 2025.

We are making significant steps towards achieving this goal. MDEC – with support from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) through the Digital Investment Office (DIO) initiative – recently organised the Digital Investment States Summit 2022.

The three-day event gathered representatives from across the nation to bolster the country’s digital investment aspirations, ultimately creating a one-nation approach toward attracting digital investments to Malaysia.

It was truly encouraging to see the Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) share their ideas and plans. We certainly learned a lot during the event, and I’m sure that we’re now of one heart, one mind and one soul in making Malaysia the digital hub of ASEAN.

Collaboration is certainly key to driving Malaysia’s value proposition to the world. The Malaysian government’s recent signing of a Cloud Framework Agreement (CFA) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an example.

Supported and facilitated by MDEC, the CFA will allow Malaysian government agencies and departments to access AWS Cloud services. It is a collaboration that will streamline cloud adoption and help save costs.

More importantly, it is a significant push towards realising MyDIGITAL’s “Cloud First” aspirations as we make the meaningful transformation into being a digital nation.

I look forward to seeing positive development from these initiatives. Happy reading!
