National E-Commerce Strategic Roadmap as Springboard Towards Digital Trade

The National E-Commerce Strategic Roadmap (2021 to 2025), NESR, is driven as a whole-of-nation collaborative approach between the public and private sectors for E-commerce to be the Engine for Catalytic Growth and as Springboard toward Digital Trade for Businesses in Malaysia.

The NESR was endorsed by the National Council of Digital Economy and 4IR (MED4IRN Council) during the meeting chaired by YAB Prime Minister on 22 April 2021.

Interventions from the Government in collaboration with the industry across various programmes under the 6 Strategic Thrusts are expected to drive the achievement of targets under the NESR, including:

In addition to registered businesses, the definition of MSMEs also includes individuals and small traders in the informal sectors as the NESR takes an inclusive approach to recognise the role and contribution of informal sectors in the economy. Some of the MSMEs may be participating in different e-commerce platforms and working with a number of agencies.

MDEC: The NESR Project Management Office

The NESR Dashboard is developed to monitor the progress of 31 KPIs across 17 NESR programmes.

MDEC has been tasked as the Project Management Office for overall NESR implementation, including:

• To coordinate and update the overall status to the NESR Taskforce. In addition, the NESR Dashboard is developed to monitor the progress of 31 KPIs across 17 NESR programmes.

• To facilitate coordination and intervention in the implementation of NESR programmes.

• To promote industry participation under the NESR and foster collaboration between the industry and the Government through regular E-Commerce Industry Roundtables and NESR Labs.
