Armed with projects in populous India and Indonesia, and at home, total railway solutions provider Emrail aims to be the leader in the region.
Nearly a century after operating in the then Malaya and later Malaysia, rail still plays a crucial role as an alternative mode of public transportation.
Having progressed by leaps and bounds, Malaysia’s rail industry of today stands on par with other developed rail industries around the globe.
Trackwork Specialist
Emrail Sdn Bhd, established in 1973 by former Malayan Railway staff, is a leading wholly Malaysian trackwork specialist company with an active portfolio of major projects.
It is often commended with delivering projects on time and within budget.
Core & Maintenance Services
Emrail’s core services are trackwork, signals and signalling, civil works, rolling stock project management and asset management.
Its maintenance services cover tracks and yards, signals and signal systems, facilities management, rolling stock, and track machines and equipment.
Present & Past Projects
Embracing innovative technologies, Emrail’s local projects include the MRT SBK Line. It was awarded the contract jointly with Fujita Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd for the construction, completion, testing, commissioning and maintenance of trackwork from Sungai Buloh to Kajang.
Another project is the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT 3), part of the Greater Klang Valley Urban Rail Development Plan.
Earlier, it was given the responsibility to design, construct and commission trackwork for both the Electrified Double Track Project 1 (2001-2009) and EDTP 2 (2009-2016) which handle passengers and cargo services.
Emrail also secured the contract to build the elevated track for the LRT Kelana Jaya Line between the depot at the Kelana Jaya station and Pasar Seni station.
Emrail designed, constructed and commissioned trackwork for both the EDTP 1 & 2, which handle passengers and cargo services.
Track Rehabilitation
Another project was the East Coast Line Track Rehabilitation Project where Emrail was awarded the contract for Package C involving the restoration of tracks, slope stabilisation, track rehabilitation and associated works due to a major flood.
It covers the stretch from Gua Musang to Tumpat in Kelantan, passing through mountainous areas, rivers and tunnels.
Beyond Malaysia
The Delhi Mass Rapid Transit System in India, a part of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s vendor development project, is Emrail’s first project abroad.
In Indonesia’s LRT Jakarta Koridor 1 project, Emrail in a joint operation with PT Wijaya Karya Beton (Persero Tbk) was awarded the contract for the section of the mainline and depot trackwork from Kelapa Gading to Velodrome in February 2017 and the line is now in the public trial phase since June 2019.
On The Rails
Emrail started out as a small company designing and manufacturing turnouts for Malayan Railway in 1973 and gradually developed its work scope to include other areas of railway engineering and construction.
It is now one of the largest private railway construction companies in Malaysia with projects locally and abroad.
Emrail got its big break in 1997 when Malaysia started construction of the first metro networks in Kuala Lumpur in preparation for the 16th Commonwealth Games.
Since then, it has delivered over 1,200km of ballasted and unballasted tracks in the region.
Customer-Centric
Aiming to be the leading railway construction company in Malaysia and regionally, its mission is to provide value engineering services via innovation, continuous improvement and teamwork while maintaining quality and safety to meet customer satisfaction.
