As the year draws to a close, there are glimmers of good news. The first of COVID-19 vaccines have been authorised for distribution in several countries. Governments and healthcare professionals across the world have closely undertaken joint initiatives to make this a reality.
In Malaysia, we expect the first million doses by the first quarter of 2021, with more to follow. This comes as welcome news as the number of infected continues to rise, with four-digit cases being logged every day.
Much of the year’s focus has been on digitalisation and tech innovation to address pandemic-related challenges. Stakeholders across various sectors see it as a necessity to mitigate risks and damage that the pandemic has wrought.
However, one must not overlook the ethics, governance, approach and integrity of how we introduce emerging technologies, in the dash to digitalise.
We would like to remind all to espouse an ethical approach to digitalisation. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) isn’t enough; treating people with respect, dignity and promoting inclusion at all levels is key to running a business sustainably and ethically, with the advent of new society-shaping technologies.
MITI remains unwavering in its commitment to usher in more investments into our digital economy. We continue to promote and accelerate the adoption of digitalisation and innovative technologies while inculcating a digital-ready culture in Malaysian businesses.
Stick with us for more investment, trade and business content.
